Miscellaneous

1. Do you have a "whois server" where I can access information on domain registered at dotPH?
Yes. Search for the domain in question on our homepage. If the domain is no longer available, click on the "Taken" link and the whois information will be displayed.

2. Are you authorized to handle .ph domain registration?
Yes. We are the ICANN Accredited Domain Registry of the Philippines.

3. Do you accept application for OTHER Top Level Domains (TLD)?
Yes. Go to this link and just follow the instructions provided.

4. How long is the propagation time?
Propagation normally takes within (24) hours.

5. What is a Name Server?
A name server is part of a collection of databases that contain information about domain names and their corresponding IP addresses called the domain name system or DNS. A name server is responsible for resolving domain names to IP addresses. Without a name server, nobody would be able to find your site using your domain name. This is the reason most domain names will have 2 independent name servers called Primary and Secondary name servers. The secondary server takes over if the primary goes down and also helps out in extreme load conditions.

6. Do I need to own or register a DNS (Domain Name Server)?
You do not need to own or register your own DNS (Domain Name Servers) in order to register a domain name. In the meantime, your domain name can be parked in our DNS.

7. Is it possible to have only a primary and no secondary name server?
No. Our system does not allow it. This ensures that if ever the primary server goes down, a secondary backup server can take up the slack. That way, your domain is still up and working.

8. I have modified my name servers, when I tried using ns lookup, why does my old IP addresses still appear not the new ones?
The changes were not yet reflected due to the time it takes to propagate your domain. The process normally takes within 24 hours.

9. Someone is cyber-squatting my domain name. What can I do about it?
You can do one of two things:

  • You can register variations of your name; say your company is Company XYZ and someone already owns "companyxyz.ph", you could register "company-xyz.ph" or "companyxyz.com.ph"
  • You can take legal action,

  • Or, you can file a dispute with one of our accredited Dispute Resolution Providers. Please see our Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy for details. dotPH does not involve itself in domain disputes, leaving the matter between the contesting parties.

10. What is the dotPH dispute policy?
The dotPH Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) provides an alternative to filing a court case to resolve domain name disputes. Filing a dispute with one of our Resolution Providers can be faster and less costly than a court case. The UDRP can be found in the Policies link on our main menu.

11. Can you provide me with the identity of the party who successfully registered the domain name I wanted?
Yes. Search for the domain in question on our homepage. If the domain is no longer available, click on the "Taken" link and the whois information will be displayed.

12. Why do nsfwd.domains.ph and ns2.domains.ph show up as my name servers?
When your domain name is registered, if you did not specify your preferred name servers we automatically "park" it with our name servers. You can "unpark" your domain and easily update your name servers by applying for a Domain Modification.

13. When will my new domain name show up on Whois?
Your new domain name can be seen on the whois database as soon as we receive payment for the domain.

14. I have paid for my domain, why is my website still inaccessible?
Here are some possible reasons why your site is inaccessible:

  • Most common, being incorrect name server configuration on the side of the hosting company.
  • No given name servers at our end. It means your domain is being parked at our default name servers.
  • You have specified invalid name server/s on your application.

15. I already have an existing PH domain. Can I avail of value-added features such as Free Web forwarding, Mail Forwarding and the Online Domain Manager?
Yes, if you registered your domain since October 1, 1999. Domains registered prior to October 1, 1999 (lifetime domains) are not eligible to avail of these features.

16. Do I need to change my e-mail address every time I switch ISPs?
Not if you are using our Mail Forwarding feature. Mail Forwarding lets you use your domain as an easy-to-remember e-mail address (first-name@last-name.ph or sales@your-business.ph) All e-mail sent to this address will be redirected to your existing mailbox. If you are switching ISPs, just let us know and we will forward your e-mail to your new address.

17. Why should I get a domain?
You need a domain so that people can find your site on the World Wide Web quickly and easily. Businesses often register domains to protect them from cyber-squatting or unauthorized use. Owning a domain name also signals that you are in step with new technology and lends you prestige and credibility.

18. I'm no longer using my domain name, can I cancel my registration?
Domain names are registered for fixed periods that are subject to renewal. You may simply allow your registration term to expire. Please refer to this link for more info.

19. I have read the FAQ and I still have questions. Who can I contact?
Please email us at helpdesk@dot.ph for any questions. We will respond to your questions within 24 hours. Or, you can call us at +632 6372104/05 from Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 6:00pm (GMT +8)
